My baking mojo

Monday, August 22, 2011

To this date, i havent started my kueh-raya baking yet (well, except for the ll doggies cookies which I did on the night before I got stomach flu). I still remember that a year ago at around this time, I started my very first baking adventure and I was hooked after. I baked almost every few days and I was inspired discovering new food blogs. I began following food bloggers on twitter and favourited a lot of recipes. As months go by, my baking mojo suddenly disappeared. It's not that the passion died but I think i may have baked the same things over and over again.

And if I thought photography is expensve, baking is worse! I bought a lot of baking trays and equipment. And that's not all. Ingredients need to be replenished ever few wks to bake more. But like photography, I think I need a retreat too from baking. Besides hari raya can wait. My mil has ordered so much goodies already!

Happy birthday, singapore!

Koran by heart

Monday, August 08, 2011

I got this video from one of my fb contacts. We maY be fortunate than them in terms of material wealth but they are actually much more fortunate than us cos they have the quran in their hearts. Subhanallah!

p.s. Oops. The original version was taken down by HBO due to a copyright infringement. Fortunately we managed to see it.

Timeout

Thursday, August 04, 2011

Ramadhan is here again. In a few months time, Aisyah will be in Primary 1. How time flies. Alhamdulillah, she got into Madrasah Al-Irsyad, our choice of school since we knew the school is moving to the Islamic Hub. Although she has passed her qualification tests, she still needs to do some 'extra work'.

Aisyah doesn't have any problems but she needs lots (and I really means lots!) of prodding to do her work. Schedules are made to make her life (and mine) easier. Of course, ample breaks are given in betwen the exercises and I include playtime/snacktime/tvtime for her. Tests ought to be primarily about measuring the ability and understanding of students, rather than their Stakhanovite ability to put in hours of work. Practise makes perfect but even adults need timeout.
